Is Eliquis (apixaban) safe to take during pregnancy?

Comment by InpharmD Researcher

There is little to no data on the use of apixaban (Eliquis) in pregnancy. In vitro data suggest apixaban rapidly crosses the placenta and can result in apixaban concentrations around 35-90% of the maternal circulation; however, the clinical implications of this are unknown. A case report describes the successful and safe use of apixaban in a pregnant 35-year-old female with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and venous thromboembolism (VTE).
