Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a heterogenous disorder, requiring individualized therapy. Treatment plans vary greatly from patient to patient. Symptoms include abnormal control of movement, episodes of altered awareness resembling epileptic seizures, abnormal sensations, chronic pain, and fatigue. Treatments for motor symptoms include specialist physiotherapy, multidisciplinary rehabilitation, specialist cognitive behavioral therapy or psychotherapy. Options such as transcranial magnetic simulation (TMS), botulinum toxin, therapeutic sedation, hypnosis and electromyographic biofeedback have also been considered for some patients. Cognitive behavior therapy has shown to be effective for treating functional seizures and functional cognitive disorders associated with FND as well. [1], [2]
COVID-19 can exhibit two main types of neurological symptoms in patients; severe symptoms such as Guillain–Barre Syndrome (GBS) and encephalitis, and less severe symptoms such as fatigue and myalgia. These lesser symptoms may be present for a longer period of time and have recently been labelled Long Covid, and are similar to other neurological conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and functional neurological disorder (FND).
